27th
August to 30th August 2004
CANCELLED
Due to
circumstances beyond our control the event
has been cancelled this year. But we will be back...
at
Broli Performing Arts Centre, The Clocktower, Mostyn,
Flintshire, CH8 9HF.
What is Mostyn Mayhem?
For the last five years, those most sensible of people Roger Davies and
Ali Close (otherwise known as The Boss Mob), have hosted a Convention
at Mostyn around the first weekend of September. Originally a Unicycle
Convention, it has now expanded to become an all-round Circus Skills Convention,
offering an opportunity to meet and share skills with enthusiasts of all
ages from all over the Country. And this year, it's been extended! Yes,
folks, you now have an extra night and half day in Mostyn as we are holding
the convention on the August Bank Holiday weekend. It is also the only
Convention to include an official Tat Shopping competition - and this
year, we are again including a pre-registered Tat Competition. The rules
are very simple, you can only spend £1.00 in total,
and are challenged to bring with you a piece or pieces of Tat relevant
to the theme of . . . . Cheese. The winner of the pre-registered
Tat Competition will get to choose the theme for the annual Sunday Morning
Tat contest. So get shopping!! And this year, we will try very hard not
to raffle off entrants belonging to small children (we really are very
sorry about that one! - It was an accident.)

The Boss Mob!
The Location
The Broli Performing
Arts Centre is based at the superbly equipped Clocktower, which is a listed
building with a 200 seat auditorium that was redeveloped as a centre for
the Community and for Performing Arts. Situated only 45 minutes from Chester/Liverpool/Snowdonia,
there is some floor space available for sleeping; a camping area nearby;
a café (catering for both omnivores and vegetarians); a licensed bar (just
what you need after a hard days playing); Skate ramps; and an abundance
of tarmac to play on if the Sun-God is present. There are also shops
and bars nearby, the Abakan outlet factory shop, and a splendid market
on Sunday morning - an absolute must if you're planning to
enter the Tat competition!
The Plan
The convention will open at 12:00pm
on Friday 27th August 2004. Friday afternoon will be for settling
in with informal workshops in the main space and lots of socialising.
The hall will be open until very late, so if you want to unicycle or juggle
to excess you can. We will, of course, indulge in our traditional pub
crawl, with yet another attempt to break our long-standing record of only
managing to visit three pubs!
Saturday will be filled
with a mixture of racing and games (mainly silly), Unicycle hockey and
basketball, and numerous workshops. And in the evening, a chance to show
off your skills in the Cabaret. And don't forget to bring your fancy dress
costume for the Cabaret - or go and raid Barbara's van when you arrive!!
Sunday will play host
to the MUNI, numerous workshops and the Tat-buying competition at the
local market. (And don't think you can get away with bringing your Tat
with you, because the theme for this competition will not be announced
until Sunday morning - and you will not be allowed to enter any
Tat brought for the pre-registered competition into this one!)
Monday will be relaxed
day of workshops and packing up. We will also have a short Convention meeting
and draw the raffle (one wonders if that remarkable pink plastic flamingo
with no legs will reappear yet again - not to mention the portable electric
typewriter!) The site will close at 4:00pm.

Still not convinced you want to be there?
Here's a few comments/highlights from last year's event to help you make
up your mind:
" . . . The atmosphere at the event was really special -
everybody was friendly, helpful and laid-back."
" . . . If
you weren't at Mostyn, you missed a crackin' convention."
" . . . Finding
out that *all* the quotes on last year's convention flyer were lifted
from my review of the convention . . .Wondering if the above quote will
make it onto 2004's flyer." (well, how could we resist!!)
" . . .
Watching Tarim buy 4 cans of V at the services and wondering if I wanted
to be in the same car as him."
" . . .
Craving a cheese sandwich at 3 in the morning, and managing to obtain
french bread and camembert from Alan in exchange for some chocolate hobnobs."
" . . .
Cow and pig races up the length of the hall."
" . . .
Playing some superb hockey."
" . . .
Finding Ali turn up at the sports hall for the first time in five years!
And Rocket stumbling in from his death-bed to referee the uni-hockey.
Pity he couldn't play."
" . . .
Camera self-timer russian roulette. (Set the camera on self-timer mode,
then pass it around pointing at each person in turn until it goes off.)"
" . . .
Louise providing the show interval entertainment by impersonating a washed-up
mermaid passed out at the bar."
" . . .
Staying up till 4am with Mike and Tony from the Clocktower playing silly
songs on the guitar."
