What is Mostyn Mayhem?
For the last four years, those most sensible of people Roger Davies and Ali Close (otherwise known as The Boss Mob), have hosted a Convention at Mostyn around the first weekend of September. Originally a Unicycle Convention, it has now expanded to become an all-round Circus Skills Convention, offering an opportunity to meet and share skills with enthusiasts of all ages from all over the Country. It is also the only Convention to include an official Tat Shopping competition - and this year, we are also including a pre-registered Tat Competition. The rules are very simple, you can only spend £1.00 in total, and are challenged to bring with you a piece or pieces of Tat relevant to the them of . . . . Fish. The winner of the pre-registered Tat Competition will get to choose the theme for the annual Sunday Morning Tat contest. So get shopping!!

The Boss Mob!

The Location
The Broli Performing Arts Centre is based at the superbly equipped Clocktower, which is a listed building with a 200 seat auditorium that was redeveloped as a centre for the Community and for Performing Arts. Situated only 45 minutes from Chester/Liverpool/Snowdonia, there is dormitory style accommodation for 24 people; a camping area nearby; a café (catering for both omnivores and vegetarians); a licensed bar (just what you need after a hard days playing); Skate ramps; and an abundance of tarmac to play on if the Sun-God is present.  There are also shops and bars nearby, the Abakan outlet factory shop, and a splendid market on Sunday morning -  an absolute must if you're planning to enter the Tat competition!

The Plan

The convention will open at 12:00pm on Friday 29th August 2003.  Friday afternoon will be for settling in with informal workshops in the main space and lots of socialising.  The hall will be open until 2:00am so if you want to
unicycle or juggle to excess you can. We will, of course, indulge in our traditional pub crawl, with yet another attempt to break our long-standing record of only managing to visit three pubs!

Saturday will be filled with a mixture of racing and games (mainly silly), Unicycle hockey and basketball, and numerous workshops. And in the evening, a chance to show off your skills in the Cabaret. And don't forget to bring your fancy dress costume for the Cabaret!

Sunday will play host to the MUNI and the Tat-buying competition at the local market. (And don't think you can get away with bringing your Tat with you, because the theme for this competition will not be announced until Sunday morning - and you will not be allowed to enter any Tat brought for the pre-registered competition into this one!) We will also have a short Convention meeting and draw the raffle (one wonders if that remarkable pink plastic flamingo with no legs will reappear yet again - not to mention the portable electric typewriter!) The site will close at 5:00pm.

Still
not convinced you want to be there?

Here's a few comments/highlights from last years event to help you make up your mind:

". . . Miark's entry to the Tat competition: the theme was 'beach', his entry was a dead seagull. Yes, it was real, I watched him scrape it off the road. Judge's comment: "Miark's really lost the plot this time".

" . . . Great selection of trick bikes"

" . . . The weird pedal powered contraption from the bloke from Broli. What is he on?"

" . . . Charlotte getting soaked, getting changed, then getting into a water fight and being soaked again by Alan."

" . . . Discovering Mike Armstrong playing with poi, and then seeing him recoil in horror as he realised I'm about to take a picture of him holding his most despised prop"

The Directions

By Road:-
Mostyn is on the North Wales coast, 20 miles North West of Chester.

At the end of the M56, turn left at the roundabout towards Chester. Then left again at the next set of traffic lights - this should be signposted Flint, and will take you through an industrial estate. Keep following the signs to Flint, which will take you to the A548 - this is the coast road to Mostyn.

When you get to Mostyn, keep going past a large white ship on your right, past Abakans Fabrics, and The Clocktower will be on your left.

(If you're lucky, we might even put some signs up to help you on your way!)

By Rail:-
There are regular trains from Chester to Flint, every 1/2 hour. It is 7 miles to Mostyn from Flint. Then :-
By Bus :- The 11a goes to The Clocktower. Running every half hour up to 18:30
By Taxi :- It will cost approximately £7.00

There are also buses from Chester - the 18a and the 11 both go to The Clocktower. The last bus is at 17:20. The 11 will take approximately 1hr 10 min, the 18a is faster.
