On the subject of Mayhem, I've just noticed last year's Kenda Climb times are up on the website now - not sure when they put those up, we spent ages looking for them after the race. They had timing stations at the bottom and top of the climb for three portions of the race (mostly at night), with a prize for the fastest ascent recorded. It was right in the middle of the lap just after a particularly leg-sapping grass section. The actual climb itself was steep, mostly tarmac with bits of gravel and annoying diagonal speed bump/drainage bar things.

Anyway, here are the unicycle times they recorded:
3:04 - Jesper (who'd have guessed  )
3:21 - Me (seriously spurred on by Keith running beside me with his bottle of beer at 2am!)
4:31 - Liam
4:32 - Paul
4:47 - Steve
4:48 - Dan
4:58 - Marcus
5:57 - Joe B
6:04 - Dane

A few people apparently did it a full minute faster than Jesper (!) but our times were pretty respectable overall. Obviously some of us weren't there at the right time to get recorded.

Haha, I must be a fast walker! Would be great if I could be fit enough to ride up it this year, not getting my hopes up though!

Just have to hope nobody turns up riding a Schlumpf with extended handle now :)

Great news!

A little off topic, but I was wondering if anyone actually use Original Source?
I had never tired it before last years Mayhem... now I use nothing else.
I'm currently using White Pear and Avacado :P

I quite like the mint stuff. Don't buy it often though. We've got a bottle of extra strong "black label" mint at the moment - quite evil stuff, got to be in the right mood for it.

You obviously need to create a new thread for this little discussion Joe - 'Pictures of your latest shower' ;)

Great news about the entry:)

The little sample bottles of shower gel they were giving out last year are great for travelling, looking forward to scamming lots more this year :D

Jan has been in touch with me.
He arrives in Birmingham on 16th June, at 5.45pm. Would anyone offer to pick him up?

He is going to bring a sleeping bag, clothes in hand luggage, but is looking to rent-a-tent, and as he puts it, 'a fast uni for the race'.

He leaves on 21st June, at 7.25am. Hopefully someone would be able to drop him off too?

Thanks,

Joe

Joe,

Jan can borrow my 29er, the only challenge is that I'm in Canada and my 29er is in London, but I have a plan. I'm coming to BUC (via London), so I'll bring the 29er with me and leave it with one of the Mayhem riders to take with them to Mayhem. I am planning to be at Mayhem to spectate, but most likely won't be there until late Friday night/early Saturday morning. I'm afraid I can't offer Jan a lift in either direction.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi guys, I was thinking about team race strategy. I assume that the standard method is for each team rider to ride one lap at a time, swapping in rotation. This seams like the sensible strategy during the day, but I was reading a thread on the Singletrack World website that suggested a different option for the night segment of the race.

It was proposed that within each team 2 riders pair-up. So for example in my team, I would ride a lap, Jan would ride a lap, then me again before Jan. During this time Jesper and Liam could get a fair bit of sleep before swapping over to ride their 4 laps while Jan and me get some sleep.

Seems like it could work well to me, with the potential for 5/6 hours rest/sleep.

What’s been done in the past? What do others think?

Sometimes we've had people ride double laps at night, or varied the order depending on how people are feeling - don't think we've ever had a proper "strategy", at least not in the races I've been at. What you suggest sounds feasible, but it could all change on the day.

I wouldn't worry too much, you've got Jesper - you're in the winning team anyway ;)

Hey guys,
Jan is arriving on the Wednesday, and staying in Birmingham, then getting a train to Ledbury on the Friday. He's going to have a look around the city, but if anyone is free to meet up or ride with him, maybe even give him somewhere to sleep, he'd be grateful.
He is looking for a lift to Birmingham on Sunday. He plans on sleeping in the airport, and his flight leaves at 7am on Monday.
If anyone can help out at all please let me know.

Paul, I think you're 29er would be perfect for Jan. I could get it off you at BUC. Thanks, ill let him know.

Cheers

Hi Kev - we'll have to try to meet up for a ride sometime. The new Haldon trail is quite fun on a 29er (or you could borrow my 26 if you haven't found one yet) - nothing like it used to be. May be a bit far for you though - perhaps we can find somewhere more in the middle.

I think most of us paid Pete with a bank transfer or cheque. He'll PM or email you the details when he sees your post.
