What Is The British Unicycle Convention?
The British Unicycle Convention is an event run by unicyclists for unicyclists, allowing unicycle enthusiasts from all over the country - and abroad- to meet, have fun, and share ideas and tricks. The Convention provides the opportunity to compete against others in events - both competitively and for fun - and to hold the "annual" British Unicycle Hockey championship.
The appeal of the event is broad, with workshops for all areas of unicycling, including ones for absolute beginners.
The Convention is open to people of all ages and abilities, and there will also be the opportunity to meet and/or purchase equipment from the world leading manufacturers of unicycles and associated equipment.
What Does This Year's Convention Have To Offer? (in brief)
The Broli Performing Arts Centre is based at the
superbly equipped Clocktower, which is a listed building with a 200 seat
auditorium, that has recently been developed as a centre for the Community and
for Performing Arts. Situated only 45 minutes from Chester/Liverpool/Snowdonia,
there is dormitory style accommodation for 24 people; camping area nearby; a
café (catering for both omnivores and vegetarians); a licensed bar (just what
you need after a hard day's unicycling); an outdoor performance and function
area; Skate ramps; and an abundance of tarmac to fall off on. There are also
shops and bars nearby. The convention will open at 12:00pm on Friday 1st
September 2000.

The Location
The Broli Performing Arts Centre is
based at the superbly equipped Clocktower - a listed building with a 200 seat
auditorium. Situated only 45 minutes from Chester, Liverpool, and
Snowdonia, there is dormitory style accommodation available for 24 people, a
camping area nearby, an on-site café, an outdoor performance and function area,
a skate ramp, lots of tarmac for falling off on, and this year, the on-site bar
will also be open.
Nearby, there are numerous shops and pubs, the Abacan
outlet factory shop, and a splendid market on Sunday morning - just ask Rob
Stone where he got his handbag from last year!!
The Plan
The convention will kick off at midday on
the Friday, for a relaxing afternoon of settling in, catching up with each
other, and generally playing on one-wheel. In the evening, there will be a
gentle ride to a nearby pub or three or four or five . . . . for those who don't
drink (or those who do drink and want to do everything!) there will be something
to entertain you at the site.
Saturday will be filled with a
mixture of racing, hockey, basketball, and workshops. And in the evening,
a chance to show off your skills (not necessarily with a unicycle) in the
Cabaret - SO BRING AN ACT, YOUR CONVENTION NEEDS YOU!
Sunday will play
host to the MUNI, with a choice of a strenuous expedition for the really keen,
and a not-so-strenuous expedition for the not-so-keen or those suffering from an
incurable hangover. For the don't-want-to-go's, there is of course, that
wonderful market just five minutes away as the wheel rotates. This will be
followed (eventually) by the Business Meeting, "awards" ceremony, and raffle
(all donations gratefully received). The site will close at
5:00pm.
Following the success of the photo-caption competition last year,
we've come up with another crazy idea for this year:- The "Best Unicycle
Mishap" competition. All you need to do, is tell us - on no more than one
side of A4 paper - your story, and we'll award a prize to the most deserving
story. You can, of course, enter more than once.
Oh yes, almost forgot -
you will need to bring a fancy dress costume along, which may or may not include
your unicycle. We're not saying yet why you need one, but you do!

* For the under 16's,
students, and the unemployed. (Proof of status will be required for the
last two categories - and also if you're six foot tall, with grey hair,
wrinkles, and claiming to be under 16!!)
** As there are only 24 beds
(dormitory style) available, they will be allocated on a first-come first-serve
basis. It is advisable to pre-register if you want a bed for the
night. There is a camp site, but there will be NO accommodation OR camping
available on Thursday or Sunday evening.
To help with cash-flow and
organisation, you will greatly assist the Boss-Mob by pre-registering (and
you'll have more pocket-money for the weekend).
Pre-Registration closes on Monday 18th August 2000.

Right, Now Then, How
Do I Get To This Wonderful Place!
By Car:
Mostyn is on the North Wales coast, 20 miles North West of Chester. At the end of the M56, turn left at the roundabout towards Chester. Then left again at the next set of traffic lights this should be signposted Flint, and will take you through an industrial estate. Keep following the signs to Flint, which will take you to the A548 this is the coast road to Mostyn. When you get to Mostyn, keep going past a large white ship on your right, past Abacans Fabrics, and The Clocktower will be on your left. (If you’re lucky, we might even put some signs up to help you on your way!)
By Train:There are regular trains from Chester to Flint, every 1/2 hour. It is 7 miles to Mostyn from Flint. Then, bus: The 11a goes to The Clocktower (running every half hour up to 18:30) or taxi: It will cost approximately £7.00. You can find timetables from Rail Track
By Bus:
There are also buses from Chester the 18a and the 11 both go to The Clocktower. The last bus is at 17:20. The 11 will take approximately 1hr 10 min, the 18a is faster.
By Unicycle:
