Workshops
Workshops will be running throughout Saturday and Sunday including:
Didjeridu - Kev Howard is a highly experienced workshop leader in didjeridu. He has toured extensively throughout Europe, America, Scandinavia and has just returned from a successful tour of Australia. His workshop can teach both the absolute novice to the more experienced players. Everyone is welcome to try this unique insturment which Kev will provide.
African Drumming - Funky drums! Explore the world of hand-drumming with African “djembe” drums, these drums are accessible enabling the least experienced player to create booms, slaps and scrapes. This workshop will be fun and funky!
We will do some rhythm based games and exercises that explore the links between rhythm, movement and language, learn and play several rhythms and maybe invent some rhythms of our own!
Samba Drumming - Martyn runs a local drumming band Rhythm Train who perform at Stockton International Riverside Festival and other events every year. With over 10 years experience of leading workshops and groups of all ages he will make your experience a fun and enjoyable time. A variety of different rhythms will be used to enable participants to take part, join in and play along together. All the instruments and equipment are provided. You do not need any musical experience to join in the sessions which are open to all ages.
Unicycle skills - from beginners riding to advanced freestyle and everything inbetween!
Juggling - learn to juggle 3 balls or throw clubs in a frenzy with 6 friends, it's up to you!
Trapeze - beginner to intermediate skills with our resident expert Rachael Devereux
Wheel Building - this workshop will assume no prior experience and will show how you can turn a bundle of spokes, a rim and a hub into a beautifully perfect wheel. On rainy days, building a wheel is a satisfying and creative way to pass the time
Big Wheel Ride - around 27 miles through the attractive rolling countryside of County Durham. Route cards will be issued so you can go at your own pace. There are a couple of pubs on the way for those who need a rest. There are some busy junctions so riders should be competent in traffic. If the weather is good, it’s a very beautiful ride. The route is aimed at 36s, but would be manageable on a 29 or even a bicycle!
Limericks - are 'the people's poetry and perfectly suited to the modern demand for short and snappy comment that often uses humour to carry the message. Come along and learn how to write 5-line verses just like Edward Lear did in the unique style and rhythm that makes everyone smile. This workshop is suitable for adults and children alike and will be all the better for a mix of age groups. The winners of the 3 limerick competition categories will be announced at the end of the workshop and prizes awarded. Just come as you are - everything you need for an hour of good fun will be provided!
